The Great Wall

Snaking 8,000+ kms. through the mountains of northern China, the Great Wall is such an amazing sight that nothing quite prepares you when seeing it for the first time. No matter how many pictures and images you’ve seen of it, still, you stand there gaping in wonderment and awe thinking of the logistics involved in getting it built. It stands some 10 meters above you and seem to slither away in both directions like a stone anaconda.

This is a section in Badaling, about 70kms. away from downtown Beijing. We tried walking about 2kms from one vantage point to another and it left us pretty breathless because of the steep gradient we had to climb as the broad parapet dipped up and down. So imagine if you were going to embark on a journey to walk its whole length – am sure many people would call you totally insane!
