The massive medieval walls of Avila, Spain are still well-preserved from the time they were built in the 11th century. It encircles the old city by a total length of 2.5 kilometers and there are 88 semi-circular towers that stand guard around these imposing walls. It was late in the afternoon when I shot this from the hilly vantage point of Los Cuatro Postes which is on the the road to Salamanca.
