One of the best ways to see Melbourne is to go on a cruise of the Yarra River. This waterway cuts across the heart of the city after flowing for 240 kms. from the Yarra mountain range then thru the plains before emptying into Hobsons Bay where the city took shape in 1835.
For $30 you can get on board one of the boats by the dockside near Princes Bridge and go on a 2-hour cruise that will take you past the city’s modern skyscrapers, low bridges, botanical parks and the Melbourne Cricket grounds. You will see many pleasure craft on the water or an occasional kayaker as well as joggers or picnickers on the banks of the river which give you a different vantage point of life in Australia’s second largest city.
